Frankenstein - Nt LiveThis is the second of our two encore screenings of the National Theatre's Frankenstein (a new play by Nick Dear, based on the novel by Mary Shelley) with Jonny Lee Miller taking on the role of the Creature. .
Originally staged and broadcast last year, Frankenstein won rave reviews from the press and has subsequently won numerous awards, including all top UK theatre awards (Olivier, Evening Standard and Critic’s Choice awards). Academy Award and BAFTA winner Danny Boyle(127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire) directs this visionary production with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller in the lead roles.
Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein's bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale.
